Giresun University was established with Article 65 added to the Higher Education Organization Law No. 2809, on 01.03.2006 with Law No. 5467. The foundation of the university was laid in 1962 with the Girls' Teachers' School. It was transformed into an Education Institute in 1976, Giresun University was founded in 2006 by separating from Karadeniz Technical University. It is a university with a total of 10 Faculties, 3 Institutes, 5 Vocational Schools, 11 Vocational Schools, 7 Research and Application Centers and State Conservatory, spreading to all districts of Giresun and hosting more than 31,000 students.
